Geoarcheological investigations: Lums Pond
Geoarcheological investigations at the Lums Pond prehistoric site explored the contexts of buried archeological components ranging from the Archaic to historic periods. While less than 5000 years of occupation are preserved, the dominant habitation of the site occurred during Woodland I times. It was, nevertheless, possible to develop a 10,000 year model of landscape history, settlement, and site preservation that was linked to a landscape characterized by dynamic alluvial and aeolian micro-environments and stabile periods of soil formation during which occupation peaked.
